Royal Conservatiory or Music

The curriculum of The Royal Conservatory is made available and accessible to students across North America through the RCM Examinations Certificate Program. Examinations are conducted three times each year in more than 300 communities through a network of local centres. Each centre has a local Examination Centre Representative whose role is to provide information, assist teachers and students, and ensure a successful examination experience

The Examination

An examination is intended to be a positive and developmental experience. Practical Examinations are conducted in a friendly and professional atmosphere on a one-on-one basis. Members of the RCM Examinations College of Examiners are chosen not only for their professional qualifications but also for their ability to interact constructively with examination candidates.

Candidates are tested on the performance of repertoire, studies and technique. Ear training and sight reading requirements help develop and reinforce solid musicianship skills.

Exam specifics to the Violin

When taking an exam as a violinist you will be performing up to three songs with an piano accompanist. This will only be specific to the songs and not the studies, technique, and ear training part of the exam.

You will also be expected to play for memory all your technique (scales, arpeggioes, ect.) and your songs. Studies do not have to memorized.

Note that when are you taking grade 6, 7, and 8 exams that these exams can be applied as high school credits!
